Wearables and Health Tech

Rings, watches, straps, and the hardware versus subscription question.

Wearables are the most misunderstood category on this site, because the answer changes depending on what you are actually buying.

A general activity tracker is a consumer gadget. A device bought to monitor a documented condition, with a clinician’s letter explaining the clinical purpose, is a different claim. Sleep apnea, arrhythmia monitoring, glucose tracking, and post-surgical recovery are the cases that usually hold up.

Then there is the hardware versus membership split. Some of these devices are a one-time purchase. Some are a subscription with a device attached, and a few are a subscription with no separate hardware charge at all. Which one you have changes what you submit and how often.

These guides go device by device, so you are not extrapolating from a general answer to your specific purchase.
