Mindbody HSA/FSA: Options for Studios
Mindbody has no HSA/FSA feature of its own, just a Truemed marketplace listing. Compare that route with an option that needs no checkout integration.
6 minute read

TLDR;
No. Mindbody runs your booking, your memberships and your payments, and none of it touches HSA or FSA money. If a client hands you an FSA card at the front desk, whether it goes through comes down to how your payment account is coded, and studios aren't coded as medical businesses. That's a card network rule, not a Mindbody setting, and nothing in your account can change it.
The best HSA/FSA option for a studio on Mindbody is Burst, and it needs nothing from Mindbody. Clients keep booking and paying exactly as they do now, on the same card. Burst writes the Letter of Medical Necessity with licensed clinicians and files the reimbursement claim, and their plan administrator pays the money out of their FSA, HSA, or HRA to them. You sign up yourself, you're live in 30 minutes, and it's $100 a month flat with no contract and never a percentage of your revenue.

(Reading this as a client, not a studio owner? You can get a letter for your membership or classes directly from Burst.)
Why FSA and HSA cards get declined at your studio
The card networks only approve HSA and FSA cards at businesses coded as medical, and a yoga studio, a Pilates studio or a gym isn't one. Your Mindbody setup has nothing to do with it. The same rule shows up in Momence's, Zenoti's and Vagaro's own help docs, so it's the category, not the software.
You have two real choices. Get your business recoded as a medical one, which most studios can't honestly do. Or use the route that ignores your payment code entirely: your client pays you normally, a licensed clinician writes a Letter of Medical Necessity, and the claim gets filed for reimbursement.
Your three options
Take the card in Mindbody | Truemed or Flex | Burst | |
|---|---|---|---|
What it is | An HSA/FSA card run through your normal processor | Card-rail HSA/FSA checkout, LMNs, partner marketplace | Letter and reimbursement platform, no checkout involvement |
Who files the reimbursement claim | Nobody; there's no claim and no letter | Nobody; the client is left to file | Burst files it for the client |
Getting live | Only if you're coded as a medical business | Sales call, then checkout integration, typically weeks | Self-serve, 30 minutes, no integration |
What it adds to Mindbody | Nothing, and usually nothing works | Nothing; no HSA/FSA capability is added | Nothing; Mindbody is untouched by design |
Your terms | Your normal processing rates | Not public; typically a rev share | $100/month flat, month to month, no contract, never a percentage |
Memberships and class packs | Every renewal is a fresh card decision | Limited support | Your existing Mindbody billing, untouched |
Client protection | None | None advertised | Automatic refund if no letter is issued or the claim is denied |
Getting the letter is the easy part
Writing a letter is the half that's easy to promise. Filing the claim is what decides whether your client ever sees the money, and in most versions of this they're left to do it alone. The right form for their administrator, receipts attached correctly, a resubmission when it bounces back over a detail. Plenty of people start and never finish. The ones who do remember it as hassle attached to your studio.
Burst does both halves. Clinician review and the letter, then the claim filed with the client's plan administrator, who pays the reimbursement out of their FSA, HSA, or HRA to them. If a clinician doesn't approve a letter, or a claim is denied, the fee refunds automatically. Neither Truemed nor Flex advertises a comparable guarantee.
How Burst works next to Mindbody
Clients keep booking classes, buying packs and renewing memberships in Mindbody, on the same card, on the same schedule. You install nothing and configure nothing, and there's nothing that breaks when either product ships an update.
Pricing is published. $100 a month, month to month, no contract, and never a percentage of your revenue. Clients pay a $20 one-time letter fee, or you cover it.

Memberships are where this pays off
Mindbody studios live on autopay memberships and class packs. That's the revenue card-based options handle worst, because every renewal is another card decision at a business the networks may not approve. With Burst there's no card decision. Autopay runs on your existing Mindbody billing, on the card already on file, and nothing changes in your process at all.
A membership someone can get reimbursed for out of pre-tax money is a different price to them than the one on your site. That's a reason to buy the intro offer and a reason to stay on autopay. Same argument applies to fitness classes and studio packages and to gym memberships generally.

Frequently asked questions
What is the best HSA/FSA option for a Mindbody studio?
Burst is the best HSA/FSA option for a Mindbody studio that wants clients actually reimbursed rather than handed paperwork. It needs nothing from Mindbody: no integration, no plugin, no change to how clients pay. Setup is self-serve and takes about 30 minutes, it's $100 a month flat with no revenue share, and Burst files the reimbursement claim for the client.
Does the Truemed listing in Mindbody's marketplace add HSA/FSA payments to Mindbody?
No. Nothing is integrated into Mindbody by it and no HSA/FSA capability is added, so your billing works the same before and after. What it gets your client is a letter, and they file the claim themselves from there.
Is Burst in the Mindbody integrations marketplace?
No, because Burst doesn't integrate with anything. It runs alongside your software instead of inside it, so there's nothing to install and nothing that breaks when either product ships an update.
Why do HSA and FSA cards get declined at my studio?
The card networks only approve them at businesses coded as medical, and studios aren't. It's a payment code question, not something your Mindbody settings can fix.
Can clients use FSA or HSA money for autopay memberships and class packs?
Yes. Clients keep paying through your existing Mindbody billing on their normal card, nothing changes in your process at all, and Burst handles the letter and files the claim.
Can a client get a letter for classes they already paid for?
No. IRS rules require the letter to be dated on or before the purchase. That binds Burst, Truemed, Flex and everyone else equally.
What does it cost my studio?
$100 a month, flat, month to month, no contract, and never a percentage of your revenue. The only other cost is the $20 one-time client letter fee, and you decide who pays it.
