ABC Fitness HSA/FSA: Options for Gyms
ABC Fitness partnered with Truemed in 2025. Compare that card-rail route with an option that leaves your ABC billing and checkout completely untouched.
6 minute read

TLDR;
No. Nothing in ABC Ignite, ABC Glofox or ABC Trainerize processes HSA or FSA money. If a member hands your front desk an FSA card, whether it goes through comes down to how your payment account is coded, and gyms aren't coded as medical businesses. That's a card network rule, not an ABC setting.
The best HSA/FSA option for a gym on ABC Fitness is Burst, and it needs nothing from ABC. Members keep paying dues through your existing billing, on the card already on file. Burst writes the Letter of Medical Necessity with licensed clinicians and files the reimbursement claim, and their plan administrator pays the money out of their FSA, HSA, or HRA to them. You sign up yourself, you're live in 30 minutes, and it's $100 a month flat with no contract and never a percentage of your revenue.

Why FSA and HSA cards get declined at your gym
The card networks only approve HSA and FSA cards at businesses coded as medical, and a gym isn't one. Your ABC setup has nothing to do with it. The same rule shows up in Momence's, Zenoti's and Vagaro's own help docs, so it's the category, not the software.
You have two real choices. Get your business recoded as a medical one, which a gym can't honestly do. Or use the route that ignores your payment code entirely: your member pays you normally, a licensed clinician writes a Letter of Medical Necessity, and the claim gets filed for reimbursement.
Your three options
Take the card at the desk | Truemed or Flex | Burst | |
|---|---|---|---|
What it is | An HSA/FSA card run through your existing processor | Card-rail HSA/FSA checkout, LMNs, partner marketplace | Letter and reimbursement platform, no checkout involvement |
Who files the reimbursement claim | Nobody; there's no claim and no letter | Nobody; the member is left to file | Burst files it for the member |
Getting live | Rarely; gyms aren't coded as medical businesses | Sales call, then checkout integration, typically weeks | Self-serve, 30 minutes, no integration |
What it adds to ABC | Nothing, and usually nothing works | Nothing; no HSA/FSA capability is added | Nothing; ABC is untouched by design |
Your terms | Your normal processing rates | Not public; typically a rev share | $100/month flat, month to month, no contract, never a percentage |
Recurring dues | Every draft is a fresh card decision | Limited support | Your existing ABC billing, untouched |
Member protection | None | None advertised | Automatic refund if no letter is issued or the claim is denied |
Getting the letter is the easy part
Writing a letter is the half that's easy to promise. Filing the claim is what decides whether your member ever sees the money, and in most versions of this they're left to do it alone. The right form for their administrator, receipts attached correctly, a resubmission when it bounces back over a detail. Plenty of members start and never finish. The ones who do remember it as hassle attached to your gym.
Burst does both halves. Clinician review and the letter, then the claim filed with the member's plan administrator, who pays the reimbursement out of their FSA, HSA, or HRA to them. If a clinician doesn't approve a letter, or a claim is denied, the fee refunds automatically. Neither Truemed nor Flex advertises a comparable guarantee.
Dues are the whole argument
ABC Fitness exists because gyms run on recurring drafts, and that's the revenue card-based options handle worst. Every renewal is another card decision at a business the networks may not approve.
With Burst there's no card decision. Dues keep drafting through your existing ABC billing, on the card already on file, and nothing changes in your process at all. The reimbursement happens afterward, between the member and their plan administrator, with Burst filing the claim. Your revenue, your billing dates and your reporting are unaffected.
How Burst works next to ABC Fitness
Burst doesn't connect to ABC Ignite, ABC Glofox or ABC Trainerize, and it doesn't need to. Nothing gets installed and nobody at the front desk learns a new terminal.
Pricing is published. $100 a month, month to month, no contract, and never a percentage of your revenue, whether you run one location or forty. Members pay a $20 one-time letter fee, or you cover it as a member benefit.

Frequently asked questions
What is the best HSA/FSA option for a gym on ABC Fitness?
Burst is the best HSA/FSA option for a gym on ABC Fitness that wants members actually reimbursed rather than handed paperwork. It needs nothing from ABC Ignite, Glofox or Trainerize: no integration, no plugin, no change to how dues are drafted. Setup is self-serve and takes about 30 minutes, it's $100 a month flat with no revenue share, and Burst files the reimbursement claim for the member.
Does the ABC and Truemed partnership add HSA/FSA payments to ABC Ignite or Glofox?
No. No HSA/FSA capability was added to any ABC product, so your billing works the same before and after. What it gets your member is a letter, and they file the claim themselves from there.
Does Burst integrate with ABC Ignite or Glofox?
No, and it doesn't need to. Burst runs alongside your software instead of inside it, so there's nothing to build, nothing to maintain, and nothing that breaks when either product ships an update.
Can members use FSA or HSA money for recurring dues?
Yes. Members keep drafting through your existing ABC billing on their normal card, nothing changes in your process at all, and Burst handles the letter and files the claim.
Can a member get a letter for dues they already paid?
No. IRS rules require the letter to be dated on or before the purchase. That binds Burst, Truemed, Flex and everyone else equally.
What does it cost my gym?
$100 a month, flat, month to month, no contract, and never a percentage of your revenue, no matter how many locations or members you run. The only other cost is the $20 one-time member letter fee, and you decide who pays it.
